Color Palette: Sunrise/Sunset

On July 1, 2014 at roughly 6:30 in the evening, Matthew and I lifted off from JFK International, on Aer Lingus, and headed to Ireland. Here in the US the sun was still rather high in the sky, but it was preparing for its evening ritual of setting in the west. The interesting thing about flying to Ireland at that time of day, is that the sky doesn't actually become completely dark. So as we were saying goodnight to our sun, heading east toward northern Europe, it was a virtual race to see who would make it to Ireland first... our flight or the sun? It was the sun, of course, who was waiting for us when we landed at Shannon International. But along the way, I captured this photo from my window on the plane. It was a magical sky. I just had to pull a color palette from it. How could I not? I hope you enjoy it.

The wing of the plane is the sweeping black shape on the lower left. Luckily the window was quite clean!

August Photo Challenge Has Arrived!

I've a ton of work lined up for August (awesome!), so I decided to create some rather simple subjects for August's Photo Challenge. I hope you'll join The Coastal Chick and me as we tackle this next month's photo themes. As always, don't worry if you miss a day or more. It's about having fun and maybe getting inspired by the subjects or other people's photos! If you're joining the group for the first time, here are the basics:
Take a photo each day using the list below as your subject guide. Let us know about your photo using Twitter and/or Instagram including the hashtag #AugPhoto. This way we can find you. You can also upload your daily photos to the group on flickr. If you'd like to be part of the daily theme twitter reminder, please leave your twitter username in the comments below. I do my best to schedule or tweet by 6:00 a.m.
If you'd like to include this on your own blog, feel free! Please give credit to this blog and to The Coastal Chick as well :) And be sure to let me know in the comments below so I can visit your blog. Thank you.

Looking forward to everyone's August Photos!

June Photo Challenge

Whoa! Did May just happen? I wish I could cheer about completing a full month of May's photo challenge, but sadly I cannot. I did in fact miss pretty much the last half of May's photo subjects. Time to move on... no time for regret. It's June!!

The Coastal Chick, Kathryn Doran, has lovingly created this month's list of photo challenge subjects by using the list from Heidi King Photography's June Photo Challenge. Yesterday's post was a borrow from Twillypop, today's post is a borrow from Heidi King. I see a trend here! Anyway, please feel free to download the list and join us on flicker, twitter and/or instagram! Please use the hashtag #JunePhoto when posting on twitter and instagram so we can find you if you decide not to post on the Flickr group. I will try VERY hard to snap a photo everyday!

Color Palette: "double impatiens"

I took this photo last summer. I plant double impatiens in the garden every year. They remind me of tiny roses. With Spring just weeks away, I thought I would create a color palette from this photo. I'm growing impatient for my double impatiens. (pun fully intended!) What's flowers are planted in your garden each year?

Happy leap day!

March Madness: Photo-a-Day

As many of my readers know, Kathryn Doran (a.k.a. The Coastal Chick) and I started a "Photo-a-Day" project for the 2012 calendar called the 366 Project. Our only rule: post a photo every day of 2012. We thought we'd shake things up a bit and add a March Madness Challenge. You can participate in this challenge regardless of if you're part of the 366 Project or not! So jump in, grab your camera or cell phone, and join the fun! Simply take a photo each day of March using the subject topics below. Then post your photo to our Flickr Group each day. Simple! Feel free to copy the chart below and post it on your blog if you like. Please give credit and be sure to invite your readers back to this blog and The Coastal Chick's blog.

In the comments below, let me know if you'll be joining the challenge and if you'll be sharing the fun on your blog!

Today's Color Palette: "Nightcap"

Today I chose a photo from my "day 7" of The 366 Project hosted by Kathryn of The Coastal Chick and myself. With wintery weather finally arriving in this part of New England, I wanted to offer a warm and cozy color palette for today.

Cheers!

Photography & Cooking with Books

Holiday 2010 my wonderful husband bought me a new camera; the Nikon D3100. And since then it's as if I'm seeing in color for the first time. What a difference from the last camera I had... which wasn't a bad camera, but it wasn't even close to being in the same league as the Nikon.

My latest design project was possible largely due to the fact I have this amazing camera. Nelly Rodriguez, of Cooking with Books, was in need of a more personal blog banner and I was thrilled to be able to design one for her. Nelly is a baker by trade, studying baking and pastry making at the Culinary Institute of America. So it was no surprise when she said she wanted dough in the photo of her banner. She had also asked for a specific font she'd seen on another design of mine. Nelly decided to go with a crisp white sidebar which looks like freshly pressed baking whites. A perfect touch! And the end result is the following...

Stop by Nelly's blog. She has so much to share from recipes and utensil spotlights, to travel tips and reviews. I learn something every time I read one of her post!

I look forward to sharing my design clients with you on my Design Portfolio page. Up next is a complete blog redo! So excited to share it with you. Stay tuned!
