Color Palette: Sunrise/Sunset

On July 1, 2014 at roughly 6:30 in the evening, Matthew and I lifted off from JFK International, on Aer Lingus, and headed to Ireland. Here in the US the sun was still rather high in the sky, but it was preparing for its evening ritual of setting in the west. The interesting thing about flying to Ireland at that time of day, is that the sky doesn't actually become completely dark. So as we were saying goodnight to our sun, heading east toward northern Europe, it was a virtual race to see who would make it to Ireland first... our flight or the sun? It was the sun, of course, who was waiting for us when we landed at Shannon International. But along the way, I captured this photo from my window on the plane. It was a magical sky. I just had to pull a color palette from it. How could I not? I hope you enjoy it.

The wing of the plane is the sweeping black shape on the lower left. Luckily the window was quite clean!

Color Palette: An Autumn Pond

Here in New England, Autumn has been absolutely lovely. For those who follow me on Instagram, you've seen a few photos lately of the beautiful Fall foliage. I'm enjoying so many Autumn photos from those I follow. One such photo is by Annette Lombardi, otherwise known as netter11. Her photo yesterday inspired me to create today's color palette. I asked Annette if I could use her photo, and she kindly said, "yes". If you don't already follow Annette, you can do so by clicking on the photo below.

Enjoy!

EA Stewart, New Logo Reveal

One of my favorite things about design work, is collaborating with a client to create something uniquely theirs. This might result in a custom piece of stationery, an invitation suite or new web image to name a few. Today's reveal was a collaboration I did with EA Stewart, also known on twitter and Facebook as The Spicy RD. EA came to me a few months ago asking for my help with a new logo and social media buttons for her website which was getting a complete renovation. Her lovely new site is now live and I'm beyond excited to show you the details!

I love the fresh, bright colors EA chose. They fit the name "Spicy RD" perfectly! In the comments below, tell me what you think about this new logo design and the social networking buttons. If you're interested in working on a logo project together, contact me with the details!

Please be sure to stop by The Spicy RD site, twitter and Facebook and tell her I said "hi"!

Sherbet Flowers

One of the many great benefits of participating in a daily photo challenge, is being inspired by other people's amazing photos! Today's color palette is based on a photo by one of The 366 Project's members, and my online friend, Jenna. Some of you may know Jenna as @Auntie_Jenn on twitter!
Jenna posted the photo shown below and I immediately wanted to create a color palette from it. Thank you, Jenna, for allowing me to use your beautiful photo. It makes me think of sherbet. Yum!

If you'd like to participate in the photo challenge, please do! Just sign up for the Flickr group and start snapping photos. Some months we have photo subjects and some months we, well... take photos of whatever we feel like!

If you'd like to submit a photo for a color palette consideration, let me know in the comments below by posting a link to the photo you'd like to share.

Enjoy!

Spring Color Palette for your Palate

My friend, EA Stewart (a Registered Dietician  & fabulous food blogger) recently posted a recipe for Potato Leek Soup with spring pea shoots. Not only does the recipe sound delicious, the photos accompanying it are gorgeous! I was inspired to create a color palette from the photo below. When you get a chance, hop over to The Spicy RD blog and enjoy EA's recipes and photos!

Have a lovely weekend!

Color Palette: Pretty Peonies

I am a huge fan of Instagram. It reminds me of a more intimate and visual twitter in my humble opinion. While browsing instagram this afternoon I came across a photo by Kelley Moore. "Pretty Peonies" was a wonderful inspiration for this week's Spring color palette. Thank you Kelley! When you get a moment, stop by Kelley's site and follow her on twitter as well.

Color Palette: Rock Sculpture

This is a photo I took while visiting Martha's Vineyard. It's of a small rock sculpture I created along side many other rock towers at home on the beach at Aquinnah. I love the colors, don't you?

Roses from the Market

I'm loving the colors found in these roses I photographed at the market a couple of weeks ago. Perfect for a sunny color palette!

Color Palette: "double impatiens"

I took this photo last summer. I plant double impatiens in the garden every year. They remind me of tiny roses. With Spring just weeks away, I thought I would create a color palette from this photo. I'm growing impatient for my double impatiens. (pun fully intended!) What's flowers are planted in your garden each year?

Happy leap day!

Color Palette: Bold and Muted

While browsing Pinterest I came across this amazing photo by photographer Brian J. Kelly. I immediately knew I wanted to make a color palette from this poppy. After studying the flower for a while I decided to make two color palettes.
The actual photos are exactly the same, only the palettes are different. Which do you prefer... the bold or the muted palette?

A special thank you to Brian J. Kelly. You can see this and many more beautiful photos by visiting his flickr account.

Spring Dreams...

I've been enjoying creating color palettes from recent photos of mine, but today I came across a photo, belonging to someone else, that instantly had me dreaming of my garden in Springtime. I couldn't resist creating a color palette! I plan on leaving a thank you for the person responsible for the lovely photo. Only problem is, the blog is in German and well... Ich spreche nicht Deutsches. (I do not speak German.) In any event, the name of the blog is Wunderschon-gemacht. Have a visit. If you do know who to communicate in German, feel free to tell the author I sent you :)

Color Palette: Succulent Shades

This time last year I was in the thick of planning my son's Bar Mitzvah. The photo above is from that special day. We used many plants in the green family, but these succulents were among my favorite that day. The beds of moss were also quite rich with color. I love that nestled in all of the greens and browns you could find a pop of vibrant pink and orange. Nature provides the best color palettes!

Today's Palette: "Pomegranate Pinks"

With Valentine's Day just around the corner, I chose a palette from the pomegranate I cut for today's snack. Don't you just love the range of ruby reds, pinks and creams? This photo can also be found as day 29 of The 366 Project.

Today's Color Palette: "Nightcap"

Today I chose a photo from my "day 7" of The 366 Project hosted by Kathryn of The Coastal Chick and myself. With wintery weather finally arriving in this part of New England, I wanted to offer a warm and cozy color palette for today.

Cheers!
